Week 8
(July 11th - July 15th)
This week, I worked on more GUI interfaces. I created more heat maps. These new heat maps displayed information about missed shots. The type of rebounds after a missed shot was determined. Different types of player and teams rebounds for all the missed shots were derived from the database and used to build the maps. The percentage of the occurrence of each type of rebounds is then calculated for each sectors on the court where a shot was missed. The map sector is then colored according to the calculated percentage. The heat maps were created for the XY coordinate system and the polar coordinate system. Different types of player and teams rebounds for all the missed shots were derived from the database and used to build the maps. I worked with the other USC student, Aaron to create this interfaces. This was in to ensure that we used the same algorithms to simplify any merge of GUI that may be necessary in the future.
At the end of the week, I again made some changes that affected all my interfaced. I wrote some sql and java code to determine game events by seasons rather than year. A new field was thus created in the database containing the season during which each game event occurred.
Again, I met with my mentors as often as needed.
