First Days
I arrived in Los Angeles, California on Friday, two days before the start of my program. Unfortunately, due to the flight delays, I could not move into my appartment upon arrival, for the housing offices were closed and the weekend was at hand. I moved into a hotel for two days. During these two days, I mostly visted the various streets that surrounded the hotel I was logging in. The most exciting were the restaurants I visited. Though they were mostly Mexican, I also came across some others. I met with various people in the regions I lived. Most of them spoke primarily Spanish, so our conversations were rather interesting as funny as each one tried as much as possible to be understood. I got to learn some Spanish phrases in the process.
The following morning, I checked out of my hotel as early as 8:00am for I had to visit the housing office and check in before making it to my appointment with my mentor that same morning. My housing was provided by the University of Southern California (USC) Housing service. My DREU mentor was of great help in ensuring that, though I was not a USC student, I was still able to live on Campus. Arrangements for my housing were made about two weeks before my arrival. I lived with two other students from USC in a two bedroom apartment. I was able to check in by 9:00 am and was off for my appointment.
