Week 9: 7/27-7/31

Journal 9:

YDWOH!!!!!!!!!!! It's HOWDY spelled backwards. :D

I wanna cry right now. My Graduate Student mentor is leaving to go to a family renuion. While I feel very happy for her, I am also sad that we have to end our summer together early. I know though that I would have wanted no one else to be my Graduate Student mentor. She was awesome and a blast to work with.

A group of friends and I are planning (and organizing) a trip to San Antonio this weekend! We are going to a small Anime convention there and spend Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday morning over there. We plan to be back Sunday afternoon or night.

I do not have one more week here. I do not have one more week here. It's still the beginning of summer and I have 20 more weeks here. That's what I have been secretly telling myself this whole week. I definitely do not want to leave, especially after having so much fun here.

What I learned this week:

1. I need to ban myself from using exclamation points. Since I use them on the site and I use them when I'm posting things online, it's become part of my normal typing vocabulary and that is not a good thing. :C

2. There is sooooo much data to anaylze that it's sort of driving me crazy.

3. How much fun I have had so far and how I am going to miss my Graduate Student mentor.

4. Planning a trip to outside of College Station is hard.

Work:

I GOT THE GRADUATE STUDENT TO DO THE LITTLE ARM SHAKING THING IN EXCITEMENT!!!!!!!!! MY HYPERNESS HAS WON! Sorry, I'm just really happy about that.

We posted the plugin in on Monday! And wow, some of the results we are getting are pretty cool! Here is a brief overview of the project and the results we received:

We have three types of activites, each which essentially ask the same thing; for the user to draw something according to a given prompt. That prompt is either to draw an outfit, weapon, food, etc. One activity asks for the user to draw an image and is shown the response that one of their friends did, along with the friends name. We called this 'Prime with name'. The second activity was very similar, except we did not give the user the name of the person who drew the respnse. We called this 'Prime with no name'. The last activity simply asks for the user to draw a piture with no response from anyone else given to them. This was called 'No Prime'.

For the No Prime results, we had a variety of responses. For the Prime with name and Prime with no name, we found similar characteristics amongst the responses. For example, if we asked the users to draw a method of transportation and gave them images of clothing with wings on them, the users, for the most part, drew wings on articles of clothing.

I have been focusing on gathering data for the personality quizzes and anaylzing it, but my partner has been informing me of any results she found from the plugin.

I had to write a new badge, create a quiz, and finish a 'choose your adventure story' (my longest one yet) all on Monday. On Tuesday, we are having a online party to try to keep the girls interested in KidGab and we are going to release a lot of new things.

We held a party today and it almost made all of us cry. To actually see that the girls recognize, acknowledge, and even like what we are doing is amazing.
