Journal 1:

Howdy!

I feel like at the end of this summer, I will have integrated Howdy and Y'all into my vocabulary. Howdy is the official greeting of Texas A & M, the university where I am working at this summer.

So, this week was pretty busy and eventful. On Monday, the day before I started and the day I moved into my apartment (which is HOLY GUACAMOLE! AMAZING!!!!!!! More on it later), there was a little get together party at the apartment complex. The next day, I took a tour of the campus and officially met my awesome mentor, the phd student I'm working with, and another DREU student that I'm working with. The next day, I found out what I was doing, and I began working. On Thursday, we hosted an online party to try to get kids interested in the website. It unfortunately didn't go too well because, while we did find some bugs with the site, no one showed up (except for us admins). On the bright side, we were doing this at a coffee shop that has awesome iced chai teas. XD On Friday, I had a meeting at noon (brown bag lunch thing), which was interesting. My partner(the girl I'm working with, I'll call her K), then went with the phd student (S) to Austin. That was fun. On Saturday and Sunday, my days consisted of this: wake up, go explore campus with friend, get starbucks, look around, go to pool, then the fitness room, then eat, and then play league of legends.

What I have learned this week:

1. Texas is HOTTTTTT AND MUGGGY EWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!! DX

2. People in Texas: YOU PEOPLE SO NICE!!!!!!!! YOU AWESOME!!!!!!!! XD

3. Belgian waffles made by Belgian students made with Belgian sugar= BEST WAFFLES EVER!!!!!!!!!!! WHY YOU NO EXIST ANYWHERE IN USA!!!!!!!!

Working:

I am working on gathering data and helping improve and add to Kidgab, an online social networking website for children, built by the phd student, Stephanie Valentine. By gathering data, our goal is to find out who and how trends are made in social networking websites, using the data to also figure out how cyberbullying begins and how to identify it. As of this week, I built a quiz and badge for the website, completed 2 online trainings for the IRB (so I can legally study kids), helped with Building Friendships, and helped hosting an online party. Also, on Thursday, I went to a meeting to discuss what I had done that week.
