To kick off this week, we had a Digital Friendship Workshop on Monday afternoon. Distinct from the previous workshops, this one was a complete, four hour workshop. The experience was a little chaotic, as our group of girls was much more energetic and loud than the groups we have had previously. Regardless, it did not fail to allow us to learn more and more about working with children within our target age group, which is certainly not an easy task!
After successfully reading an XML file and building pages automatically, the next task was to implement the pages where the girls would be prompted to draw. As I am not familiarized with how the canvas and sketch recognition works, Stephanie helped a lot with the development of this part. It took a decent amount of work, but we also got the sketches to save in a folder when the user submits their drawing. Now, we just need to find a way to generate and save a second version of the drawing with the username of the person that drew it. Still, it's super exciting to see all of this coming together!
My parents decided to stay in College Station until Thursday, which was pretty nice as I got to hang out with them during the evenings when I got off from work. Additionally, I received a surprise on Saturday evening; my boyfriend called me saying he was waiting for me in the lobby! It totally took me by surprise, but apparently our parents knew about this for a while! I am also thankful for his visit, as I was not feeling well and it certainly brightened my weekend. I am looking forward to visiting him in Dallas next week!
