A retreat and a canoe
This week was split into two parts: graphics retreat and research meetings. The
graphics retreat came in the middle of the week. The retreat was a great experience
but tiring.
Graphics Retreat
I loved this retreat. We did not leave Pittsburgh or CMU (on the first day) but it was a retreat from
our current work. It was chance to listen to people's current research and brainstorm
our ideas and give feedback. I was smitten with the research people were doing and
knew at that moment Carnegie Mellon and I were an excellent fit.
The second day we continue the retreat at a Canoe club. I got my first chance to
canoe and I was definitely nervous. The nervousness was intriguing because I had
a life jacket and I knew how to swim. Yet, I was nervous about the canoe tipping
over. The canoe ride was serene besides the waves hitting the canoe. However, I
could not wait to get back on dry land.
Research Meetings
Tuesday, I had my second meeting with Ron. We discussed whether it was best to build
a classifier to distinguish correctness or use built-in knowelge. We also discussed
how our approach regarding the marker set used for the motion capturing. The meeting
concluded with us stating several assumptions to guide our research.
Friday, I met with researchers from University
of Pittsburgh. In the meeting, we discussed the next steps in our collaboration.
One step was that I am going to be taught the exercises by the physical therapist
in the motion capture lab. I feel that is huge leap over me trying to perform the
exercises myself.
