Week 1

This week was basically just for introductions and picking out a project. Professor Peh was out of town until Wednesday, so myself and Emily, the other DMP participant, met Professor Peh's grad students on Monday. I am going to be doing a project for Yong Wang, a second year Ph.D. student. He's working on ZebraNet. He gave me a handful of papers to start reading, because I have practically no background in this subject. The subject is also quite new, so there aren't really any textbooks I can consult. On Wednesday, we met for Professor Peh for lunch. We had a really nice time- she's a lot of fun, and very obviously brilliant! She got me and Emily acquainted with the place and took care of the administrative stuff. She is going to be out of town for 3 weeks now, and so we are going to be more in touch with our respective grad students. Yong showed me my desk and computer that I can use once I finish the reading. Professor Peh plans on us reading up on materials for 2 weeks, then brainstorming for a couple of weeks, and then we will start actually trying to implement/simulate our ideas. It's going to be pretty challenging but fun. I spent Thursday and Friday starting reading papers and going through some tutorials. I am starting to slowly understand what I am supposed to be working on.
