My Experience

Part I

This place is really beautiful. I am not used to seeing such old-fashioned buildings around me, so at first I felt completely out of place. I am living in the dorms where "A Beautiful Mind" was shot. My common room looks exactly like Russell Crowe's dorm, with the same window that he threw his desk out. So that's definitely cool! I have a really big place, but only 2 suitcases of stuff. My roommate hasn't showed up, so I have 3 rooms to myself. The campus is really empty for the summer and completely empty over weekends.  But the best part is New York City is just an hour's train ride away! For a girl from a so-called "city" in the West, there is nothing cooler than spending weekends in New York City- and that is exactly what I plan to do. I went for the first time in my life last week and was just blown away. I plan to shop and sitesee and so much more like never before.

Part II

At the beginning I was almost happy to have such a big place to myself. But it really started to get boring being alone in the room! My roommate came 2 weeks ago and we have been having such a great time ever since then. Along one edge of the campus is Nassau Street- basically downtown Princeton. It is lined with tons of shops and restaurants, a little classy and pricey for a college town, but all the more exciting. Every weekend I seem to be getting to see more of the east coast. My family actually flew out during the 4th of July and we spent time in New York City and visited relatives in Connecticut and South Jersey. I am going back to New York City this weekend, (and am going to see shows on broadway!) and then visiting my sister in Pittsburgh the next weekend. But it's not like I'm trying to get away from here- Princeton is really such a beautiful place to be in and sometimes I walk outside and feel like I'm in a dream world.

Part III

The last few weeks were a lot of fun. I went to Pittsburgh to see my sister and went to New York City a couple of more times. Other than that, my roommate Megan, Emily (the other DMP girl), and I just had a lot of fun everyday at Princeton. It's been so fun being at Princeton, experiencing a little, cozy campus as opposed to the enormous state university environment I'm used to. I have just enjoyed myself so much this summer!
