Week 2: May 31 - June 6

This was a short week. On Monday, Maya and I were kindly invited to a lunch meeting with Prof. Vicki Interrante and her graphics students. It was their first of many weekly summer meetings, and they were all very willing to talk about their graphics and visualization work. We also received good news: the Scribblers had arrived!

We had our first weekly Scribbler meeting on Tuesday. Elizabeth gave a nice presentation about her previous work, and we brainstormed ideas about what we wanted to do with the Scribblers. At the meeting, I also met Mike, an undergrad also planning on working with the Scribblers. We brought all the Scribblers back to the lab and received a quick tutorial on their usage. I spent the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday playing with the Scribbler's controls. My excitement was often replaced with frustration as I struggled to get accurate or useful readings from the sensors. I was able to get the Scribbler to sometimes find dark places and then stay there, but that was all.

Even though it was a productive week, I was excited when my sister picked me up Wednesday night. I was looking forward to seeing family members that I hadn't seen for quite a while. We all get together occasionally, and it is always a good time.
