Week Six
It is hard to believe I have already been here for six weeks and only have four more to go. With research during the week and trying to explore Boston on the weekends time had flew by. This week we did not have a reading group meeting. I missed having an open discussion on a topic related to theoretical computer science. I did however have a lunch meeting this week. For our lunch meeting we had Brazilian food, which was delicious. We had three different types of meat chicken, beef, and sausage. We also had rice, beans, salad, flan, and plantains. I would have to say I have fallen in love with plantains and will have to find a place that makes them when I return home.
This week I continued working on my program to generate patterns in search for an oscillator. I have ran into more problems than I had foreseen but I am sorting them out as I go. I am hoping to complete my program this week and have it running before I have to attend the Leadership Alliance Symposium in two weeks. Through analysing the data of known oscillators I have been able to apply some bounds on my pattern generator, though I have not proven any of these bound and am not sure at this time if they can be applied. This week I also started reading part of Wolfram's book A New Kind of Science.
This weekend I went to the Aquarium with a group of people I met at a Reddit meetup. I really enjoyed the Aquarium, especially the penguins and the live tanks you were able to put your hand in. Though I enjoyed the Aquarium I expected there to be more stuff in the New England Aquarium in Boston. I also went to the movies with a group of people I have become friends with while in Boston. We saw the movie Ted which was filmed in Boston. It was interesting seeing places I.ve been in a movie. I also have been participating in a scavenger hunt like thing for pottery. A guy named Clay Ward makes pottery and hides one piece everyday around boston and its surrounding areas. Since this is my first time in Boston I usually don.t know the location. But this week I knew the area he had given the clue for and found one of his vases. I really enjoyed trying to find something based on pictures of where it was hidden and what was near it.
