Week Six
July 4th - July 10th, 2011
Fourth of July, 2011 was nice and relaxing at the Fort Collins city park. We rode our bikes (in background) to the park and had a little picnic :). There were various local bands playing, including a local orchestra.
It was nice to have the 4th of July land on a Monday.
There's a city park here in Fort Collins named (you guessed
it)... "City Park". It's a nice place with a small lagoon
and lots of grass and pine trees. We spent the evening there
waiting for the fireworks display that happens at sundown.
It was definitely the nicest weather I've ever experienced on
the 4th of July. I didn't know that 1,000 miles north of
Texas will give you temperatures of 75 degrees in the middle
of summer. Makes for a nice picnic on a grassy hill watching
rock bands and a local symphony perform.
The rest of the week was spent writing and revising a BGPmon
Quickstart Guide that will be part of the download package.
This sounded like an easy task at first. But it turns out
that I needed to learn a lot about my audience. I felt
kind of down after a meeting with Jason and Dan. At the end
of showing them my first draft, there was so much red ink
all over the page that one could hardly tell whether the
red ink was correction ink or source ink. But, a few
revisions later, I'm starting to feel a little better and
I think that the Quickstart Guide will (eventually) turn
out okay. The week also had Jason and I working on an initial
6Watch slide deck that will go through many iterations and
will one day help with writing a research paper.
Also, Cathie joined in a meeting and I'm starting to see
that she will be a major force that will enable Jason and I
to work better as a team. I can't wait until next week when
she will be able to help us out full time...
