Week Five
June 13th - July 3rd, 2011
Our wedding! It took place in our hometown at a museum :). Time really flew by that day! And the usually hot Texas weather miraculously resembled Colorado weather. Everything was perfect, I wouldn't change any part of it... The other picture was taken at one of the Fort Collins, CO dog parks
where we regularly take our dog Zia. If you ask me, it's by far the most beautiful dog park Zia and us have visited. It even has miles of hiking trails and a small lake behind it :-).
"Week Five" is definitely the longest period in this journal.
In the interest of time, I will try to be as brief as possible. First and foremost, I got married on June 17th! The days
leading up to that day were spent driving to Texas and making
final wedding preparations. The wedding was beautiful, I couldn't have asked for more :).
We only spent the weekend after the wedding in Texas, so that we can get a headstart on enjoying Colorado. This included going to the local drive-in theater (yeah, they still exist!), driving around to take in the mountainous scenery, listening
to various local bands,
and just relaxing.
That pretty much covers the 2-week period between 6/13 and 6/26.
As for the week of 6/27 - 7/3...
Dan was right, it is pretty hard to remember where you left
off after a few weeks have passed. But things quickly got
back on track with the 6Watch project. Jason had written his
own collection of scripts and there was about a week's worth
of IPv6 data to sift through. I spent most of the week figuring out how to use his scripts and then used them to generate
a full 20-day IPv6 data set. For now, BGPmon related items
were put on the back burner.
On Tuesday, a few people from the lab went out to tour the
New Belgium Brewery. It happened to be their 20th
anniversary!
This was unplanned, we just picked a random date a month
ago. The best part of the tour was that it was free. You
just have to reserve your spot a month in advance. We got
to sample about 8 different beers. These ranged from a 20th
anniversary special beer all the way to a 3 year-old sour
beer called "La Follie". It was really fun to hang out with
the guys outside of work. Also learning about the history
of the brewery was nice too. That's about it for what happened
outside of work that week.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention,
we have a new addition to our team! She (Cathie) is a postdoctoral
researcher that will help us mostly on BGPmon tasks. She is
still finishing up her PhD thesis defense, so she won't be
on full-time until next week. So far, it seems that she
will be a huge help to our team. Who knows how next week
will play out...
