Dr. Lenwood Heath |
Dr. Heath is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech. He, along with Dr. Zhang, is directing us in our research. He has a B.S. in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.S. in Mathematics from University of Chicago(needless to say, Maroon pride again!). Dr. Heath works on computationally solving discrete problems which often imply solving optimization issues. Currently, he is working on several project in bioinformatics, including modelling the biological phenomenon of gene silencing in a computational fashion and researching molecular evolution that requires computational analysis of genomes. Dr. Heath has an incredibly vast experience both in Theoretical Computer Science and Bioninformatics and Computational Biology, so make sure you check out his website for some interdisciplinary gems. |

Shilpa Nadimpalli |
Shilpa is a rising junior at Tufts University. She is currently pursuing a B.S. double major in Biology and Computer Science. Her research interests include computational biology and bioinformatics, with a focus on epigenetics. Shilpa is a girl full of energy, always having a funny story to tell, that is, when she's not kicking ass doing research. (but even then, sometimes) Make sure you check out her project webpage to find out more about Shilpa.
