Places I have visited in Oregon |
The Beach at Florence (June 9th)Alright, I have never seen the beach or the ocean. This was a must for me to visit. Rebecca (the girl I am staying with for a while) drove us up to Florence to the beach. We stopped by the sand dunes -- I bought a throw-away camera to take pictures but...sand got in it and there it went. Death to the camera. The dunes were pretty -- but, hey, it is only sand. Then we went to the ocean. So beautiful. I loved it -- I collected some shells for my friends and sat and read whiloe layng on the beach. I wold have swam but....it was really cold. I mean, really...cold. I need to visit again because I promised my boyfriend a picture of me at the beach. |
Saturday Market (June 23rd)Everybody here said I really needed to go to the Saturday market. I thought it was just going to be a regular market but decided to give it a chance anyway. What harm could there be? I loved it -- like a mini-bazaar. There was so much I wanted to buy -- didn't but wanted to. There is a farmer's market on one side -- whichc was cool. They had the oil jars for bread dipping and I got two for a good friend of mine. But on the other side were all of these booths with crafts that you could buy. There was this handmade dragon that I really wanted to get for Joe, my boyfriend, but alas, 200 dollars is a bit much to pay. :( But it is a place to visit if you ever go to Eugene -- the food is wonderful ;) |
Jan's Cabin (June 28th)On Thursday I went with Jan to her cabin up in the mountains. It was so pretty. I must own a cabin up there. Very very relaxing. It is right by a river and I followed a trail up one side for about a mile and then walked back. I took alot of pictures (but they got ruined because I have no talent with cameras and thought the film was done when it wasn't). I then took a bike ride to see the mountains -- I saw one and got pictures (yet again lost). Jan and I talked for awhile while she cleaned the cabin. It was fun. |
Mt. St. Helens (July 4)Alright so on the fourth of July, Rebecca (the girl who I stayed with because the dorms here didn't open for two weeks after I arrived) and I went to Mt. St. Helens. I had never seen a mountain before, much less a volcano. We left at 9:30am and didn't get home until 2 am on Thursday. We accidently drove up the wrong side of the mountain. W really wanted to see the Ape Caves (a lava tube that is really old but wasn't affected by the 1980 eruption) and the Trail of Two Forests (a nice spot to walk around and see where large trees left holes in the ground when the lava burned them). Then we went to the Windy Ridge (pics to come). Very pretty. I saw Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood from up there. The view was worth the long, long drive up there. Then we went to Rebecca's brother's house where they lit all sorts of fireworks off in the middle of the neighborhood. Very cool fireworks. So now I can say that I have seen a mountain up close, and a volcano :) |
Ice Cream Parlor (unknown)Alright I had to add this place. I think the name is something like Pearl Street Ice Cream Parlor. I am not sure. But the place rocks. Joe (my boyfriend) and I went there while he visited. We got the pig's trough. We saw it on the menu and had to ask. It was explained to us as two banana splits. We had to have it then. We shared and probably only ate one of the splits but considering most of that was the vanilla and chocolate and the bananas, it is good there were two. The place rules! |
