Weekly Report

This page contains my weekly report index. I am doing a project with Dr. Wanda Pratt this summer at University of California at Irvine...

A brief description of the project:

This is my understanding of Wanda Pratt's project. I strongly recommand that you to check it out at her site.

Internet search engines have become very popular and powerful research tool. They're fast and convenient. However, search engines do not always give you a direct answer right away. The answers can be confusing sometimes for users to decide which results to use.

In order to give users a clear search output, Wanda Pratt, who has a Ph.D in Medical Informatics, decided to create a new search system--Dynamic Categories (DynaCat) to give users a way to find any medical information.

Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) is a long-term National Library of Medicine (NLM) research and development effort designed to facilitate the retrieval and integration of information from multiple machine-readable biomedical information sources. So Wanda's Dynacat uses UMLS as a database. So currently my goal is to download UMLS onto UCI's ICS system, and replace all the UMLS api calls in the Dynacat impementation with alls to our own database. It might sound easy, but it is not.
