Week1 (from 5/24 to 5/30) Monday

Got USF ID card, completed paper work, set up computing account in the morning. In the afternoon, got to know the lab, received a laptop and a desk top to work for the project. Started read Cynthia Breazeal's papers which were printed out before the trip.

Tuesday

Continued reading, installed Linux on the laptop, checked out the library. Got lost for a while. Wow, the campus too large, especially when I had to wark!

Wednesday

Attended weekly meeting with Robin and her other graduate students. Had lunch and group reading. Went to "Q-Zar" to play laser guns (it was a fun game!) and other games in the everning.

Thursday

Continued reading, downloaded and install Netbeans in the laptop, went to the library to get some Java and Linux books.

Checked out the Book store, got some post cards.

Friday

Still Reading.

Left early in the afternoon to go to Orlando to get the car borrowed from my relatives there.

Saturday

Got back Tampa from Orlando at noon. Yeah! I have a car now!!

Sunday

Stayed all day home even though I just got the car.

Week2 (from 6/1 to 6/7) Monday

Holiday. Checked out some Vietnamese food store and restaurants.

Tuesday Attended a training on the use and maintenance of the robots with a Prof. from University of New Orland and some other USF grad students. Feel more comfortable with the robots now.
Wednesday Weekly meeting, lunch and group reading (nice activity)
Thursday Prepared and organized all the literature search since last week.
Friday Met Robin to go over the literature search.
Saturday Eat out, got some more food.
Sunday Went to Florida Aquarium and visited University of Tampa.

Week3 (from 6/8 to 6/14) Monday

Continued literature search and reading.

Tuesday Met with Robin to go over the search and prepare power point slides for the presentation in the next day.
Wednesday Weekly meeting, presented about the project and my progress. The presentation was successful thank to Robin's big help with the slides. Got many good feedback from other grad students on the possible emotional behaviors of the robot.
Thursday Reading and find other relevant papers.
Friday Research on nurse-patient relationship in an emergency case. Processed paper work to have the permission to check books out at the Health Science Library (interlibrary).
Saturday Went to Orlando
Sunday Checked out Vietnamese food stores in Orlando
   

 

Week4 (from 6/15 to 6/21) Monday

Worked on annotation

Tuesday Finished annotation
Wednesday Met with Bill from Theatre department
Thursday Continued working with Bill
Friday Studied Inuktun Control Packet code
Saturday Continued and finished the first version of the website
Sunday Got fun ticket to Busch Garden and checked it out for the first time.
     
Week5 (from 6/22 to 6/28) Monday Studied how to use NetBeans to create GUI
Tuesday Continued studying NetBeans
Wednesday Weekly meeting and reading group
Thursday Complete the GUI for the snakebot
Friday Got new camera for the snakebot
Saturday Came to the lab for reading
Sunday Started creating this website
     
Week6 (from 6/29 to 7/4) Monday Got the controller board device for the robot
Tuesday Met Robin to go over the literature review.

Practiced with the software to control the robot via the controller board

Wednesday No meeting. Set up Java communication API
Thursday Got Java communication API installed, NetBeans still had some problems.
Friday Got control of the robot, working on Yes / No expression
Saturday Came to the lab to continue working with the coding
Sunday Went to Daytona beach with my relatives in Orlando
     
Week7 (from 7/5 to 7/11) Monday

Yeah! Holiday again! July 4th. Went to watch fireworks at Citywalk, Orlando

Tuesday Finished literature review on robots and theatre. Started the GUI
Wednesday Weekly meeting, listened to Matt's presentation about Java programming. Reading group meeting at lunch time.
Thursday Interface group meeting with Robin and Matt to go over each person responsibility and progress.
Friday Successfully express yes / no with the two main movements of the robot: rotate and bend, but the control was still at command line.

Week8 (from 7/12 to 7/18) Monday

Implemented the behaviors as separate functions.

Tuesday Started hook up the GUI and behavior functions.
Wednesday No meeting. Completed the implementation of the GUI. Met with Bill and Susan, the writer of the article "I, puppet"
Thursday Prepared the robot for WB38's interview with Robin at the lab.
Friday Cleaned up the codes. Wow! This was a very productive week. All the emotions were generally implemented.

Week9 (from 7/19 to 7/25) Monday

Well, reading again this week on the previous robotics work that made use of puppet or theatre art.

Tuesday Read "Affective Computing" by Rosalind W. Picard
Wednesday No meeting. Worked on the program manual.
Thursday Completed the summary of the project, worked on intensity graphs.
Friday Annotated papers on theatre and robotics
Saturday Went to Orlando
Sunday Robin brought me and Sam to canoeing in the morning then we had to work in the afternoon, since Robin traveled in the week after this week.
     
Week10 (from 7/26 to 7/31) Monday

This was a very busy week. I had to finished up every thing: documentation the codes, manual, bibliography, move the GUI controller from the desktop to the laptop

Friday Some more writing, cleaning, finished every thing by about 2pm
Saturday My trip back New Jersey
Sunday Happy to be home!!
