About me, the mentors, the project
Hey there, I'm Olivia Smith, I am a undergraduate computer science student . I am a rising sophomore who is planning to graduate Spring 2021. Currently, I am spending ten weeks at North Carolina State University to research what level of question difficulty is best for teaching computer science concepts on an automated grading platform. By the end of the ten weeks, my partner Sarah Korkes and I will have a study designed for our mentor's Fall 2018 Introduction to Matlab course. Our mentor is Dr. Lina Battestilli, who is an Teaching Assistant Professor in the computer science department at North Carolina State University; her research areas are cloud computing as well as Networking and Performance Evaluation. We are also working within the Games2Learn Lab, which is led by Dr. Tiffany Barnes, who is also acting as a mentor to Sarah and I. She is a professor in the same department and university. Her research areas include advanced learning technologies, artificial intelligence and intelligent agents, computer and video games, along with graphics, human computer interaction, and & user experience. Together, we hope to cultivate a better, more streamlined experience for students enrolled in large classrooms that utilize an automated grader for smaller assignments. Our goal is to minimize time spent and number of attempts for each question, while also maximizing the learning and retention of the material, thus creating a more efficient learning atmosphere. |
