Week 4 โ€” Exclusion data

This week I took a break from the website and focused on delving into the exlusion criteria data. Most studies exclude certain groups of people based on conditions that could possibly interfere with the intervention. A common one is pregnancy. So I spent a majority of this week sifting through the available exclusion criteria and trying to figure out how often certain groups are excluded from studies. The data is a bit messy, so the numbers I managed to get are not perfect (as I searched for things like "pregnant women" but not "women who are pregnant"). It seems that women are more often excluded from studies than men, but more analysis would need to be done to determine if there is always a qualifier on that (i.e. "pregnant") or if women truly are just excluded more often than men without a special condition.

I didn't do anything new in Philly. I mostly just stayed in my room, got a few pretzels, and enjoyed my 22nd floor view of the city.
