THE JOURNEY (WEEK 1) MAY 28-JUNE 3
My trip from Clarksdale, MS to Gainesville, FL was a different experience. I took a bus and it was a 15 hour drive. It was comfortable because I had my own seat, but was a long trip. When I made it to the University of Florida, I barely had things, so getting settled in was easy. The people I met here are very nice. They brought me in and treated me like one of their own. The environment is amazing especially from where I come from. The weather is extremely hot as well. I was also able to tour some places, there is way more things to do here. They offer so many things to do here, like swimming, game room, sports, everything for everyone to enjoy. Not to mention all the restaurants in sight. I really think I'm going to enjoy my experience here at the University of Florida. I can't wait to see what my first DREU experience will bring.
The first workshop talked about how to conduct real research. The workshop gave resources, examples, and practice to help do a research paper. The people I worked around are very helpful and good resources. The lab I work in is a good environment. My first week I toured the campus around my work area, and the campus is huge. I ate at some of the food places on campus, which has good hospitality.

THE JOURNEY (WEEK 2) JUNE 4-10
I have started my training and it is going well. The workshops are good as well, it helps with literature review, human subject research, user oriented approach, and agile development. I got my project and I'm working on prime III(about prime III). This week i'm working on creating the ballots for prime III. Basically, the design for it. Making a way where users will have easy access to the ballots. I continue to update my website as well, and working on one from scratch. See how different experts of the computer world would react to the ballots. Think about what type of things they would do and need to help the user with choosing ballots. I will be presenting the information I found. We went hiking this week, which was a hot experience. We was able to see some alligators. Also, worked on a website that allow people to create a ballot. Anybody can use the website to create a ballot. We are trying to make the website easy for people to use.
THE JOURNEY (WEEK 3) JUNE 11-17
During this week I created a wire frame for the design of the website. The wire frame is just a basic layout of how the website would look when people want to create a ballot. The draft of website is created using Balsamiq. Also, I started my training for java script. Getting to know the other DREU participants by having events with them. Friday was fun and games. I enjoyed playing dominos and mario cart with the other people. This was pretty good, can't wait to see what next week brings.

THE JOURNEY (WEEK 4) JUNE 18-24
Week 4 was an excellent week. As we get closer to the end of the program, we create a stronger bond with the other students. Work continues to be great. As we continue, we begin to get deeper and deeper in the work. Now we are finishing up our wire frames for the website we will begin to code later on. I'm starting to get attached to Gainesville Florida and making some memories I will cherish forever. The weather is outrages still. Rains almost everyday and still be very hot. The environment of the people here is warming.

THE JOURNEY (WEEK 5) JUNE 25- JULY 1
Week 5 was a week of just chilling and doing work. Basically, wrapping up the wire frames that we are working on for the website. The only exciting thing this week was bowling with the other REUs. I been getting help from others to put together my design for the website. I think its going to be pretty good.

THE JOURNEY (WEEK 6) JULY 2-8
This week has to be the best one so far. I worked on my prototype for the website and almost finished it. We enjoy the Fourth of July by having a kickback with the other REU workers. It was a successful and everyone had a great time. It was great spending time with them and connecting more as the final month is coming upon. I'm excited and sad that this is the last month here. Can't wait to see what this last month would bring as this summer is winding down.

THE JOURNEY (WEEK 7) JULY 9-15
This week was a slow one. I worked on my wireframe and edited it this week to make it into a well designed prototype. I let people look at it and give me feedback to better improve it. After I got my wireframe down, I started working on my prototype the upcoming week. Didn't really do too much but edit the work I needed to. Activity wise I didn't do too much but walk around. The weekend I checked out some places in town. Basically making sure I am good moving forward through the rest of the summer.

THE JOURNEY (WEEK 8) JULY 16-22
During this week, I worked on designing my prototype for the ballot creator website. The first design I had was a good idea, but wasn't clear. So I keep editing and thinking of ways to make the prototype better and easier to use. I let people test it and give feedback. I utilized the feedback I was given and came up with a final prototype idea. I let people test my updated prototype, and they liked the transformation of it. There was a beach day for the REU, wasn't to exciting because of the rain. Finished off the week, I looked to see if I'm meeting the requirements for DREU. Also, I made sure my work is going good.

THE JOURNEY (WEEK 9) JULY 23-29
As this internship is coming to an end. I worked on my final poster and presentation. Me and the other DREUs finalized our combine wire frames for the website. I had to figure out what I need to talk about on my poster and presentation. Their was a museum visit Friday to the Museum of Natural History. The grad students look over my poster, so I can have feedback and change things if needed. My poster was sent Friday for printing, and I can't wait to see how it turned out. That conclude this week as I prepare for the final week of my summer internship at UF.

THE JOURNEY (WEEK 10) JULY 30-AUGUST 5
The DREU intern has come to an end here at UF for me. It has been a great summer for me as I learned new things moving on into the future.
My mentor, grad students, and other DREUs has been great to me. I think my presentation went will and my poster was even better. I submitted my final paper and finished up my website. I packed up my things, as I prepare to catch a flight Saturday back home. This was a great first year experience for me. I would love to do it again. Thanks for letting me experience my first internship with DREU.
