ABOUT ME
MY NAME IS ARIAN WILLIAMS. I’M FROM MOUND BAYOU, MISSISSIPPI. I AM A RISING SOPHOMORE AT MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY. I GRADUATED SALUTATORIAN WITH A 3.92. MY MAJOR WAS MATHEMATICS IN THE FALL, BUT AFTER TAKING CLASSES IN THE COMPUTER SCIENCE AREA, I ADDED THAT AS A MAJOR ALSO. I WILL DO MY BEST TO GET A DEGREE IN THE MCIS DEPARTMENT AT MVSU. I PLAN TO BECOME A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER AFTER I GRADUATE IN 2020. THIS SUMMER WILL BE MY FIRST TIME WORKING ON A RESEARCH PROJECT, AND I HOPE I LEARN A LOT FROM IT. I AM WORKING WITH DR. JAKITA THOMAS THIS SUMMER ON A BEDSIDE MANNER PROJECT.

ABOUT DR. THOMAS
DR. THOMAS RECEIVED A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN COMPUTER & INFORMATION SCIENCE WITH A MINOR IN MATHEMATICS FROM SPELMAN COLLEGE IN 1999. IN 2006, DR. THOMAS WAS CONFERRED A PH.D. IN COMPUTER SCIENCE WITH A SPECIALIZATION IN THE LEARNING SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGY FROM THE GEORGIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY IN ATLANTA, GA, WHERE SHE WAS A PRESIDENTIAL FELLOW, NATIONAL PHYSICAL SCIENCE CONSORTIUM FELLOW, TUTOR, MENTOR, AND RESEARCH ASSISTANT. HER RESEARCH INTERESTS INCLUDE EXPLORING THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMPUTATIONAL ALGORITHMIC THINKING, PROMOTING ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE INFORMATION AND SERVICES FOR UNDER-SERVED POPULATIONS, IMPROVING REASONING USING EXPERT CASES, SCIENTIFIC REASONING, COMPLEX COGNITIVE SKILLS LEARNING, AND COMPUTER-SUPPORTED COLLABORATIVE LEARNING. |
