My name is Manuel G. Meraz and I am a Senior at the University of California, Merced. I am a part of the School of Engineering majoring in Computer Science & Engineering and expected to graduate in Spring 2018.

My major interests are robots, outdoor exploration, powerlifting, gymnastics, philosophy, music, and cycling. This is my second summer working at the Moses Biological Computational Lab. Last summer I worked on programming the Swarmies to autonomously pick up cubes with April Tags on them for the first time, and also implemented a visual tracking system for April Tags to be used for debugging April Tag detection by the rovers.

My mentor’s name is Dr. Melanie Moses and she works for  the department of Computer Science at the University of New Mexico. Working with her last summer really opened up my eyes by exposing me to many professionals in the field of robotics at Robotics Science and Systems (RSS), and giving me the opportunity to challenge myself that has lead towards a cemented interest in robotics. If you’d like to find out more about her, here‘s her website.
