Week 1
Orientation/background studies: This week started out with orientation and getting familiar with my surroundings in the lab. I was challenged with the task of creating an educational game to help children grades 6-8 with middle school arithmetic. I was also able to study more on different programming languages as well.
Week 2
Professional Website/ NSBC conference: I started sketching out my initial design for my website. By doing that I would have a much easier time adding the content. On Wednesday I left for Atlanta, Georgia where I participated in the National Society for Blacks in Computing Conference where I was able to network with many graduate level students and professors from other institutions. Throughout my stay at the conference I was able to think long and hard about the possibilities of going to graduate school and the benefits it would offer.
Week 3
My third week wasn't as tideous because all I had to complete was my CITI Training. I also connected with the people that I met at NSBC. The people that I networked with have offered great internship positions for the future and future jobs offers.
Week 4
Week four was a very slow week. I started composing my Preliminary Status Report, which consisted of everything I had worked on all the way up to week five. On Monday of week four me and some of the other DREU students were fortunate enough to help Dr. Seals with her Tiger Youth Camp.
Week 5
This is the week that I have to present my Preliminary Powerpoint presentation. I was pretty excited to show everyone what I had been working on for the past 5 weeks because it was very interesting to me and me and my other lab partners put a lot of hard work into this project.
Week 6
On week six we started off with 2 days off because it was the fourth of July weekend. So with it being such a short week, I started on the poster of my lab work. I also had a couple of days where I was doing self studies on Swift, PHP, and Python.
Week 7
Its week seven so that means I have to more weeks before my time comes to an end. This week I started on my final powerpoint and started on my final paper. I also had to finish any of the simple details that I had going on with the Logan. Project.
Week 8
Week eight came so very quick. At this point I was working on my evaluation and final write ups. It was time for me to piece everything together so I could make my last 2 weeks a breeze during my DREU experience.
.
Week 9
This was my final week. Everything transitioned smoothly including my Final Powerpoint presentation of my work and my final poster that I had to present to all the DREU students that were in the department for the summer. I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with Dr. Seals and all of the other DREU students it was a very positive experience this summer over all.
