I think we've had our breakthrough moment -- altering the transition matrix within DSD. Basically, instead of the DSD algorithm calculating the distance metric using a random walk, we hope to weight the random walk using confidence.
On an unrelated note, it is SUPER RIDICULOUSLY HOT OUT right now. Mid-90's with no sign of cooling off any time soon. I'm glad work is air conditioned, because I'll be here a lot of extra hours this week escaping from the heat! :)
We spent the day implementing DSD transition matrix code. Looking back at my post history, it seems like Tuesday has been the best down-to-business coding-like-crazy day. :)
I don't know what to do with myself when it's this hot outside. Time to go get ice cream I guess!
Seriously, if you are moving to Boston, consider looking for a place that has A/C. I know this is unseasonable, but I'd love a nice brisk 40 degree day about now. I'd settle for 80.
We discussed our results at the undergrad meeting, and decided that we're ready to start putting a poster together! We spent a bit of time away from the code to look at examples of posters around the building and online, as well as some helpful guideline websites. There's a lot more to it than I thought!
Hottest day of the week. It's too hot to whine about it.
We decided to try and allocate votes inside majority vote by using confidence. Other than altering the algorithm, we won't need to change the actual confidence scores or anything. It's mostly the proportion of the confidences that is important here. I think Tony and Inbar did something similar, so we may borrow their code if it's still around.
FINALLY the heat broke. I'm so happy to do yoga again!
I went to Davis square for lunch and happened upon an art fair, ArtBeat. They had 2 of 5 of the roads coming into Davis blocked off, with music at every intersecting side street and art/food/craft vendors everywhere. So fun!
Sunday I made the happy mistake of buying the computer game Civilization 5. Apparently the entire day disappeared, but as far as I'm concerned, I was only playing for about an hour... :P
