Welcome! This website documents my summer research project with the DREU program.
I am working with Professor Laurel Riek of the Robotics, Health, and Communication Lab at Notre Dame, and Michael Gonzalez, a graduate student. We plan to develop a shared interface to support doctor-patient communication in discussions about the patient's cancer. Once a patient is diagnosed with cancer, they meet with their oncologist to discuss five key topics: diagnosis, prognosis, metastasis, treatment options, and side effects of treatments. The problem with these discussions is that the patients and doctors often leave the meeting with different impressions of what was discussed. To solve this problem, we propose a shared interface, possibly tablet-based, to guide these discussions so that the doctor can better convey information in a way that is clear to the patient.
