Fun fun fun: San Juan Islands: Whale watching tour

A "little" grey whale

About 60-70 miles north of Seattle, there are some islands on the Puget Sound which are good to visit for, amongst other things, whale whatching. There are 3 or 4 islands, with Friday Harbor on San Juan island being the biggest touristy-town on the islands. There are about 10 million whale-watching tour companies, and almost all of them guarantee you will see whale(s) and almost all of them are quite expensive.. It's probably not a bad idea to just close your eyes and pick one, unless you would like to save $20 and use the company we found. We used the Victoria San Juan Cruises company, they were $20 cheaper than the rest, and their tour was 3 hours, whereas most of the others were 3.5-4 hours. We saw one whale, but I don't think we'd have seen any more if we'd used any of the other companies because no one had seen the orcas around for a few days.

It was fun being on the boat, but it was a kind of spendy day, so unless you are very excited about seeing whales, you might regret spending the money.
