#TRIOWORKS
Posted by Ivens Applyrs on June 23, 2017
Though we are technically off for the Summer, I was given the opportunity to travel to Atlanta to give an oral presentation on my research on "Consumer grade Brain Computer Interfaces as a form of Authentication and Control." The judges stated that I articulated my research well and made it very informative. I am sure that if I had more conclusive data, I would have receive an award recognition. I am thankful for the DREU and McNair program for giving me this opportunity #TrioWorks.

Research Workshops

This is the second week of research workshops. It dives in deeper with key areas of research. One of the notable workshops from this week was the "User Centered Approach" hosted by one of Dr. Gilbert's PhD students. Since User Experience is one of my research areas of interest this workshop was very interesting. She did a good job of explaining how I should look to achieve proposed deliverables. Breaking down problem identification, Focus group & interviews, setting up user profiles, proposed solutions, etc. It was very informative to say the least.

DREU Students Arrival

The other DREU students have arrived this week and it looks like they will be participating in different projects. This week we also had workshop to set our research foundations. This first workshop discussed "How to Read a Research Paper" nd "How to Formulate a Research Question." Since these workshops were aligned with what I learned in McNair, it was very helpful to learn how other individuals read research papers. Currently, I am using Mendeley and taking notes on my papers through that.

DREU Concerns
Posted by Ivens Applyrs on May 26, 2017
This is the first week of the Summer DREU program and I am very excited. Unfortunately, I am taking 2 classes in addition to the research program so I have no idea how much work I will be able to accomplish this summer. I am also the only member left on the Brain Words Team. However, the focus for the summer is the same, learn, apply, and collect data.
