Journal Entries - Week Five
Sunday
Today the
PhD student and I manually tested more of the data, again, on the
weekend... It was extremely tedious and inefficient. She was told weeks
ago to automate the testing process but she said it was "too difficult"
because of it throwing errors. Manually, the testing will take us dozens
of painful hours. My mentor told us that it was unfortunate, but ok if
we only tested a fraction of the data, because the deadline for the
project to be submitted for a conference is this Friday. After we
tested, I emailed my mentor asking if there is some way to automate the
program. She emailed back saying that the deadline for the project had
been extended a few weeks and that the PhD student really needs to find a
way to automate the testing process and bypass the errors.
I still need to work on the social networking websites research that my mentor gave me.

Tuesday
I worked
on writing up the summary of the three papers that are most closely
related to the social networking project I'm working on.
Wednesday
Since my
mentor told the PhD student to automate the program, I haven't been
meeting with her on that project because she is spending the rest of the
week figuring that out. I wrote up the examples of different types of
content sharing on different social networking sites.
