Week 5 - 6

posted Jul 9, 2012 12:53 PM by Simin Chen   [ updated Jul 9, 2012 12:54 PM ]

I've been working on writing a paper to submit to the SPLASH 2012 Student Research Competition and working on the grammar for the new language on and off.

Week 4

posted Jun 20, 2012 6:49 AM by Simin Chen

This week I had meetings with my post doc mentor everyday to design the construct of our language.

We wrote a sample program based on the requirements document I wrote up before. As we were coding, we discovered more and more issues, such as where to place access policies, what to instantiate, how to instantiate, etc, but as we worked, we developed a more in depth understanding of what was needed and how to implement our ideas.

Week 3

posted Jun 10, 2012 9:47 AM by Simin Chen

  • Further refined Requirements document
  • Discussed with post-doc what concepts we wish to include into this new language
    • decided on a combination of Classes, Relationships, and States
      • Maybe Access Policies
  • Started working on a more concrete example of the university system.

Week 2

posted Jun 10, 2012 9:45 AM by Simin Chen   [ updated Jun 10, 2012 10:12 AM ]

  • Read papers (on states, relationships, inheritance, architecture)
  • Thought up a running example of a University System
    • Wrote up a requirements document for it
    • Read about UML to better format the paper.

Week 1

posted Jun 10, 2012 9:43 AM by Simin Chen   [ updated Jun 10, 2012 10:11 AM ]

The first week, I spent a lot of time reading papers. I mostly read papers written by people in the group. I also did some reading on security to get a better grasp of what needed to be prevented and how.
