DREU Summer 2011
My Summer in Albuquerque
Week 6: July 4 - July 8
This week, I focused on fixing my code for the multiple rigid bodies. This week, I started using the code for rigid bodies with 2 degrees of freedom, to help with creating one rigid body with only 2 degrees of freedom. The code was immensely helpful, and I made several useful changes to the code based on what I found. I spent much of my time working on exiting infinite loops, and I figured one out on Thursday morning, based on the code for one rigid body with 2 degrees of freedom. Soon after, I ran into a different infinite loop, and have since discovered the problem is finding the center of the robot with only 2 degrees of freedom. I feel like I can see my way out of the infinite loop, and hopefully I will solve this problem early next week. On Tuesday, Andrea and I made our presentation on the parameters that we made last week. I also created a presentation for our weekly Thursday meetings, all about what I have been working on so far this summer. Unfortunately, we ran out of time for me to make the presentation, but I will present in two weeks, and hopefully then I will have more results to present. Some high school interns presented about their work, which was very interesting. One student is working on figuring out how the Great Fire Wall of China works, that will hopefully shed light on what China is censoring and how often the list of censored items is modified. Another student is working with robotic ants, and showed us a program he created that simulated the way ants in an anthill go about collecting food. Also, I worked on my paper, and hope to add more to the methods section in the coming week.
