This was it, the last week!
Poster presentations went about as well as I expected. Myself, Jessica, Zach, Jesus, and even Aaron showed up to Zachary for the final presentations to the engineering department not taking ourselves very seriously. Aaron got out his phone and played some 80's rock as we cut in line to get lunch, and overall the experience was really fun, even if we didn't actually win anything. One guy from the CS department REU won third place. We came back to the lab after the presentations were over and took an extra poster and wrote MISSION ACCOMPLISHED on it and hung it on the whiteboard.
I'm still working on my research paper and it's not going to be done until after the summer is over. I'm trying my hardest, but this paper is going to be part of a larger paper submitted to a conference or journal (or multiple ones!) and Dr. Murphy is making sure it's perfect. I've got statistical analysis left to do, and by the time you see this, of course, the paper will be done! :)
I wouldn't trade summer research for anything in the world. I could not have made a decision about grad school without this experience. I really want to continue working for Dr. Murphy as a graduate student, but she insisted that I look at other places as well (which of course I will!) but I really like it here!
Thanks,
Jill Greczek
