We went over the article on shrinking trees, discussed questions I had had with it, and decided that the method was not useful to us. Dr. Dutta explained her own idea, taking the probabilities at each node on a path.
We discussed the paper on kernel density estimation. Dr. Dutta explained the idea of a kernel more fully to me, and we discussed the usefulness of the idea. Dr. Dutta asked me to implement the method in Weka.
Dr. Dutta sent me this assignment. The goal of the assignment was to verify that the probabilities would sum to one if we took into account the probabilities at each node on the path, even if we smoothed it with Laplace or M-estimate. I found that they did.
I spent time creating this website in accordance with the DREU guidelines. Previously, this content had been on the website Dr. Dutta had created for this project. I enjoyed refreshing what I had once known well about php and other web tools.
