The project I'm working on this summer is making games that take Wii motes and webcam input. These games will be configured by therapists to target specific movements, and handed to the stroke victim to take home and play on a computer. We are making games because the repetitive movements deemed important by researchers can get boring. We hope our games will encourage people to do the exercises that will restore mobility.
My biggest challenge has been learning java. I had taken C++ and assembly language before, and arrived with confidence in my ability to learn Java quickly. Once I actually got here, I looked at the code other undergrads had written and got really nervous that I didn't know as much as them. They were really supportive when I voiced my concerns, and by the third week I had enough of a command of Java to write a segment of code that was short, but fairly complex... and it worked!
My final paper detailing our research findings.
