Magda has a solid model for summer papers, such that an initial proposal and a midterm paper set the stage for a solid final paper. I have been revising my midterm paper, which will likely be transformed into my final paper quite soon.
My research goal has been articulated to a very manageable point. The focus is to develop a stand-alone application that can be run from within Lahar or separately to reverse input streams. This has been the general goal, but defining it in terms of an application has helped my focus tremendously. I can successfully reverse streams! The big test now is whether or not what I have accomplished improves efficiency.
I will be presenting my summer work at the University of Washington REU Poster Fair on Wednesday, August 19th. This is something I did not know earlier in the summer, so I had been working with intention of having to give a brief talk. I think I prefer the poster session method. I have a science fair background from high school, and I really enjoy meeting with people from unique academic backgrounds. I think I will gain a lot from having to present my work to non Computer Science types.
