After a lot of enthusiasm, this week has been quite slow. One of the challenges of audio software is that it can be very picky, and I have run into a lot of problems even getting stuff installed. Julie originally recommended a package called HTK. Installing it was not too difficult, but processing proved very unintuitive. I made some headway with other packages, notably Sphinx 4. Though I have had very limited success with various forms of audio processing software, it has been exciting to attempt to answer such an open ended question. Neither Julie or I actually know what the best package is, or have a lot of experience with applications like these, so it will be nice to settle on one so I can make progress.
I met Jennifer, my new lab mate. She is a sophomore at UW interested in Computer Science, and she will be focusing on a GUI for a demo of Lahar at a big conference in France in August. We have already had some fun knowledge exchange. I help her with Unix commands, and she has helped me with web design resources. Knowledge exchange in the name of science is really quite delightful.
Hopefully the weekend will bring some audio processing. It is definitely a little frustrating to feel behind, but not unmanageable.
