About Me
My name is Suzanne Matthews, and I'm a recent graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. I am attending RPI once again for graduate school, in which I will be pursuing a PhD in Computer Science. The emphasis of my research is Computational Biology. During my stay at TAMU, I worked with Tiffani Williams, in the Computer Science Department. Dr. Williams' research area lies in the field of Phylogeny, a subset of Computational Biology. Phylogeny has been an interest to me since I first heard about it, and during this summer, I hoped to learn as much as I could about it. This site details my progress, as well as my project and results.
About the DMP Program
The DMP, or Distributed Mentoring Program was founded in 1994 by the Computing Research Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research(CRA-W), which is a subsidiary of the Computing Research Association(CRA). The purpose of the program is to encourage the number of women entering graduate studies in Computer Science and Computer Engineering. Selected students are paired with a mentor with matching research interests and receive a grant to do research with said mentor during the summer at the mentor's home institution. For example, during the Summer of 2006, I did research in phylogeny with Tiffani Williams at Texas A&M University (TAMU). To find out more about the DMP program(and/or apply), click here
