Introduction
- Welcome to my DMP
research site. I am a Junior at University of Missouri in Kansas City,
majoring in Information Technology and from next semester I will study
in University of Texas at Austin, majoring in mathematics.I expect to
graduate on Dec. 2007. I hope this experience will help me know how to
be a successful researcher and help me pursue my graduate degree. This
summer I am working at Indiana University in Bloomington with Professor
Connelly on a Nutrition Database Project. Follow the links to learn
more about my project and me.
- Dr.
Kay Connelly is an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science
Department at Indiana University where she leads the Security for
Ubiquitous Resources Group (SURG). She is the Associate Director of
IU's Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research and a member of the
Pervasive Technology Labs. She is an active faculty advisor to WIC@IU.
Dr. Connelly's research focuses on user acceptance of ubiquitous and
mobile computing technologies where there is a delicate balance between
such factors as convenience, control and privacy. Dr. Connelly is
currently investigating three application domains: 1. convenience
applications such as automatically configuring a cell phone's
notification mechanism depending on the physical and social context of
the cell phone owner, 2. health care applications to empower both the
ill and the healthy to manage and improve their own health, and 3. work
and learning applications such as a tool to assist students in
gathering environmental data while simultaneously supporting data
analysis in the field.
Research Interests
- Data Analysis

- Integrating technology into populations that do not ordinarily use technology
Projects - Nutrition Database Application Project
Description
- This project is to help people who have special need in food and
nutrition control their daily diet and make nutrition information
accessible easily everywhere. At the same time, researchers can gain
information about patient fluid and sodium compliance directly from
output of this project.
My Goal:
- Create a website for the database that provides web service for
clients who can enter UPC and then get all the nutrition information
- Create a web service access application on PDA
- Create a web service access application by voice-XML
Journal
- During this summer I will be a memeber of SURG, security
for ubiquitous resources gourp. The group foucus on investigating a
variety of issues in ubiquitous computing, including security , privacy
and user acceptance. The key attributes of the group target environment
are: Sensors and processors embedded in the physical environment and
Mobile devices and users ,Collabor ative applications ,Context-aware
(physical and virtual) applications,Non-technical users. There are
several application domains: patient-oriented, health-care information
systems ,minim izing inappropriate cell phone interruptions ,automatic
service discovery for ubiquitous computing ,enabling common users to
manage their own devices securely . This is a terrific summer to wait for me explore.
