At UMN, my research is to further the development of a Virtual Reality Architectural Design Program called GL Creator. It is essentially a software interface that allows architectural students to step into a 3-dimensional world where they can design buildings and other different types of structures. My specific assignment is to work on a 3-D backdrop for the interface. The task requires me to take the data from a panoramic scan of scenery and map it onto concentric cylinders in a way that gives the illusion of 3-dimensionality to a user positioned in the center of the cylinders.
