Professor Rodger was my mentor/advisor for the summer.  I enjoyed working with her because I felt that she was a person that I could actually go to if I needed something.  I have done a lot of research oriented internships and I have always been surrounded by men.  This summer was a nice change because I was given the opportunity to see women such as Prof. Rodger contributing as much to computer science as men, and it was very  encouraging to me.  This was the first summer that I felt that I established a real relationship with my mentor and the first summer that I really felt accepted and capable.  At the end of the internship, Professor Rodger invited me and her other two students over to her house for dinner.  I thought this was a really nice thing to do, especially considering that she really didn't have to.  She has two of the most adorable little boys, Erich and Markus, that I've ever seen.  I guess her motherly nature has rubbed off in the workplace as well and added components that are often missing (at least in my experiences): care, concern, support, and appreciation.  For all of those reasons, this has been a great summer and a wonderful opportunity.
