traveling to san diego was pretty exhausting, but luckily my apartment and roommate have worked out great. i won't have a car while i'm here so fortunately i'm within walking distance of a mall, a grocery store, and the shuttle to UCSD's main campus. i also happen to live on this huge canyon called rose canyon which is a beautiful view, but i miss new york city's public transporation already!
professor zhou is away traveling for conferences in china and won't be back until my third week. i met with xinxin jin, the phd student who was left in charge of me for the summer. she talked to me about working on a mobile project that they haven't figured out the specifics of yet and gave me some introductory materials to read. the office is incredibly quiet; college campuses always feel so abandoned over the summer.
