Week Five
(July 4 - July 10)

In order to propose an alternative renewable energy source that will be efficient enough to produce energy quantitatively and qualitatively, there is need to analyze the power consumption in a datacenter. This analysis involves inquiring about the types of servers used in the datacenters and the power consumption of each of these types.
This week, I worked all day in the datacenter.

The week’s activity involved collecting this two major information: the types of servers within each rack in the datacenter and the amount of power used by each rack. I did the collection of the latter during four periods of the day: morning, noon, afternoon and evening. This is to determine the variation of energy usage with time (if at all it does varies with time). This activity will certainly continue next week as the initially set data collection period was at least two weeks. Mid week and at the end of the week, I met with Jing to discuss about my progress and what is still to be done.

Had I to name this week, it will be named
Just working. I did nothing out of datacenter. Because the datacenter was far from my apartment, I could not go back home in between the times of recordings. Consequently, my plan for the movie theaters was canceled. Though I worked on Saturday as well, that was just for some few hours. The rest of the time, I stayed home watching a movie or completing the requirements for my next DREU stipend. On Sunday, I attended church with some international students I met at school.
