JOURNAL: WEEK 2               June 21 - 27, 2009

RESEARCH:

This week I met with a colleague who is a biologist. We discussed how she uses tree viewing programs, what features she likes and what complaints she has about existing programs. We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of 2D versus 3D programs. We also discussed the differences between how computer scientists view programs versus how biologists view them. It was a great meeting and left me with much to think about.

I have also put together a questionnaire that I have sent out to a slue of other biologists. I am hoping to get more feedback so that this program really becomes something that not only can they use, but that they want to use. However, at this point in time, I am still waiting for more updates.

Other than that, I am just reading, reading, reading. I am trying to familiarize myself with the terminology so that my documentation is clear. I am also looking at what people are currently working on, so even without many responses I can develop a useful program. The final thing that I am reading about is the current existing programs and what people think of them. What items are consistantly commented on for good or for bad. This is a nice way of seeing what changes Biologists would like to see implemented.

LIFE:

This week has been to exciting. I have spent some time taking advantage of the 100 plus degree weather down by the pool. After several crazy weeks of finishing up my academic quarter and moving down here to Texas. It has been nice to just have some time to relax.
