Welcome To Jamari Robinson's Summer Research 2008 Profile Page

Week of 06/12/08 - 06/18/08

The first week of research is mostly organization. The professors set up a lab for running the JCAT Experiments in the lab, designated laptops, and distributed keys. Initial meetings were held to discuss goals and when and where future meetings will be held. This process helped to set the pace for the rest of the summer. Once settled I organized both my laptop, for dealing with the curriculum website, and the desktop computer in the lab, for running JCAT experiments. Ideas for experiments to be run were discussed and approved. Research on other similar curriculum websites got everyone off to a good start.

Week of 06/19/08 - 06/25/08

The work is going smoothly. Although the JCAT experiments are taking approximately a day and a half to complete I am getting a few done. The other researchers and I have finished our research and have begun planning the design and structure of the site and the databases behind it. We as a group have many ideas but we find ways to reason and compromise and come up with a solid framework for the rest of the work to follow. I have begun downloading information from several different sites put up by professors who okayed the use of their information.

Week of 06/26/08 - 07/02/08

The work on the curriculum database is getting tedious. Most of it involves converting pages to the .pdf format and uploading the resulting file to the databases that were setup. Some of the JCAT experiments are not running and I believe its due to errors in my parameter files. I have contacted the professor and the graduate students working on the project to get feedback on how to fix and improve my work.

Week of 07/03/08, 07/21/08 - 07/24/08

I am continuing work to finish converting and uploading files to the database for the curriculum website.

Week of 07/25/08 - 07/31/08

I met with Professor Parsons and the graduates students. Kai Cai has helped me fix the new updated JCAT software which runs an experiment in less than seven hours. I was able to rerun some experiments with new configurations that Kai gave me. I haven't been able to discuss the results of the experiments and find out how to make them better or tweak the parameters based on the results as of yet but I am sure that will come soon. The .pdf files have all been uploaded to the database for the curriculum website.

Week of 08/01/08 - 08/07/08

The first half of the curriculum website is almost completed. Some new sites with different course information that were to be acquired have been and will be uploaded to the database soon. The second half of the website involves creating a page loaded with examples of different subjects in computer science. I uploaded a bunch of examples. Benny, one of the other researchers, informed me mid week that we should upload the examples from the different pages in the lecture notes and such. This means a lot more tedious work. There seems to be more than enough time to complete it though.

Week of 08/08/08 - 08/12/08

I have been running some more experiments and uploading examples when I met with Professor Parsons and Kai and they explained to me that I needed to re run the experiments with some updated parameters as to generate a comma separated values files which in turn will be used to create graphs. With the updated version of JCAT the experiments should be done smoothly and we should be able to graph and examine results.

Week of 08/13/08 - 08/17/08

The experiments have been re-run and the information has been given to the graduate student and Professor Parsons. They will turn the results into a sensible graph of which information can be derived. I will run some new experiments with new parameters and continue to work on the course information website.

Week of 08/18/08 - 08/22/08

The course information website is almost completed. All the classes have been uploaded. The CS1, legal applications flavor, will be given during the fall semester and uploaded afterwards. The examples page is the most tedious task since it demands that we go through each slide of each lecture and post a corresponding link to that page on the site.

Week of 08/23/08 - 08/27/08

The new experiments have been run and most of the examples are up. We have slowed down due to the fast approach of the upcoming semester. The professors are getting ready to teach their classes and I am getting ready for my course load. I have given the CSV files to the professors and when we all get a chance to meet we will go over the graphs.

Week of 08/28/08 - 09/01/08

A few more ideas for experiments have come up. I have finished my DMP website and the final requirements. The professors and I are communicating via email due to the increasing demand for time attributed to the start of classes. Any loose ends will be tied up during the semester as time permits. It has been an enlightening summer research experience.
