Week 6: 7/9 - 7/15

We had the CMU/GATech retreat this week. Let me say that I'm completely nonfunctional in the mornings. I didn't get a whole lot of work done this week, since we spent two days having a mini-conference, but at least I know that it's still physically possible for me to get up at crazy early hours. The talks were highly technical, the food plentiful--it was just like one biiiiig, long lab meeting. The GATech people were really friendly; I look forward to seeing them again at SIGGRAPH. Jessica was also really great at organizing everything, from the food to the facilities to the sweet get-together at her house on the first night. I also met some people from CMU I haven't even seen before, which was nice. The second day, we went to a canoe club at which Jessica is a member, and I went canoing for the first time! It was a blast. Liza taught me the ropes, and then when the day was over, I went out on the river with Ronit in a kayak. We had some problems fighting the wind, but I think my arms are a lot stronger for it. :)

Jessica took a look at my script, and the movies were playing slowly. First we looked at it on Jim's computer, then Ronit's, and I did another test run in the Wean lab. Maybe deinterlacing the movies messed things up? It shouldn't matter, though...

I felt bad because I was supposed to see the midnight showing of Harry Potter with Raye, as were April and Jesse, but all of us sort of forgot. I also had to get up early the next morning to make the meeting on time, so I guess I had a somewhat valid excuse, but I felt terrible nonetheless. I kind of exacerbated the situation when I went out with April to see it on Saturday, but Raye said it'd be okay since she had to do something for SCA. I haven't seen the leather guard she made yet, but I'll bet it looks nice, since it took her all day to make! Oh yeah, and the buses were being really stupid on Saturday after the movie, and so April and I had to take a cab back home. The driver started taking a lot of detours, which made the two of us suspicious, but he ended up being really nice and turning off the meter, since he had to find his way back because of the closed bridge.
