Week is one of those words that looks really funny if you look at it too much.

I feel like I've been focusing a bit on what I've been doing outside of work. This is because work is continuing to be a bit frustrating. I had lunch with Christine (Alvarado, one of my professors at Mudd) on Friday, who said that for grad students, having not much to do all the time is not an uncommon thing, which made me feel a little better about not having much actual progress to show. I wish that it was easier to actually finish something up, but I keep hitting snags, and no one else around knows the code much better than I do, if at all, so I can't really get help. Welcome to the real world, I guess.

So I haven't really been working on anything new. Today I got the client-side minimization almost consistent -- NB minimizes slides once, no matter which combination of minimizations has been done. Unfortunately, the server still doesn't recognize the minimization of blogger ink, and after a little more digging, I don't think blogger ink minimization was ever even written into the server php. I don't actually know php. This will be a bit of an adventure, if it's a project I stick with. Krista keeps asking me if I feel like it's worth my time. I'm not sure if I'm bulling through because I'm stubborn and want to actually get something done, or if I actually think that it's doable, and by me. There's the weekly UP group meeting tomorrow, which will be nice. I still have to write my weekly report.

I went to the zoo this weekend, with one of my friends from Mudd who's in San Diego for the summer. I fed a giraffe! And will post the picture if I can track down a scanner. That was pretty much the high point of my day. Also the purchase of a red panda stuffed animal at the panda store, because I feel that they're cuter than giant pandas, and rather neglected in the whole scheme of panda things. They only had two shelves, as opposed to 30. Also I got massively sunburned, but only on one shoulder. Oops.

I am, incidentally, posting from 5 in the morning, as I went to take a nap last night around 8:30, and woke up at about 3:45 this morning. Apparently I turned my cell phone alarm off in my sleep. So the reference to "today" above is actually Monday, since I still sort of classify my sleep tonight as a very long nap, and thus am thinking of now as Monday, even though it is in fact Tuesday, and my parents on the East Coast are probably awake.

At some point, I will figure out how to template this journal code so I can stop modifying the header every time I update. Maybe php?
