As of this week, I am
halfway done with the mentorship program.
Nothing too out of the ordinary happened. I continued working in Maya on the cloth
mask. My goal is to develop the
simulation enough to ensure that the effect will work and can later be applied
to the actual motion capture data that will be collected. By the end of the week I reached this goal
and was able to start looking into a few other scenes within the animation that
I would be able to start experimenting.
In addition to my individual work for the animation, Professor Duesing held auditions in the mocap
lab for the characters that would eventually need to be captured. The actors were all from the drama department
at CMU, and needless to say it was very entertaining to see them perform. It was also the first time I had heard any of
the script which proved to be very provocative yet interesting
nonetheless. This week also saw the
reemergence of a project entitled “Enactment” into my life. This was a project I did work on last summer and
after supposed whispers of it having been completed, it has returned. Thankfully the work needed to be done was not
extremely taxing and just required to fix a few glitches within the animation
of a few of the movie files. In addition
to my other work, I began learning about MEL, which is a scripting language
used in Maya. After reading a few
chapters and doing a few tutorials I successfully created a condition in which
two eyes were constrained and manipulated to appear as if they were shifting
focus between different objects.
