My name is Laurie Jones, and I'm a graduate student at Mills College in Oakland, California. I've just finished my second year in the Interdisciplinary Computer Science program, and I'll be completing my coursework in Fall 2006. I was one of 45 students selected to participate in the CRA-W Distributed Mentor Project in summer 2006. My mentor, Dr. Kristina Lerman, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Southern California, and she is a project leader at the Information Sciences Institute. Dr. Lerman's research focuses on mathematical modeling of multi-agent systems and machine learning methods for information extraction and analysis.
