Week 7 (07/11 - 07/17)

- Continued working on the improved parallel Nth Element algorithm, incorporating all the changes made to the STAPL project.

- 3pm: Atteneded the Cyclotron Tour. 

- 5pm: Attended Nancy's group meeting, where Aimee practiced her Master's defense on Vizmo++.

- Had a brief meeting with Nancy, Gabi and Olga to discuss my progress, identify problems and needs (not yet supported in STAPL), and to discuss possible solutions for my problems. We also discussed possible ways my second algorithm, Parallel Stable Sort, should be implemented.

- Wrote down the modified steps of the Parallel Nth Element algorithm and the steps of the Parallel Stable Sort algorithm.

- Continued working on the improved parallel Nth Element algorithm, incorporating all the changes made to the STAPL project.

- 3:30-6:00pm: Attended the USRG GRE Prep Seminar.

- Went to the Rec Center in the evening. Played badminton with Stuart, Andrew and Nitrin.

- 11:30am: Attended the weekly CS Brown Bag Lunch. Dr. Killingsworth from the Department of English spoke on technical writing.

- Coded up the parts of the modified Parallel Nth Element algorithm that could be implemented at that time. Identified problems and needs (not yet supported in STAPL).

- Had a meeting with Gabi and Timmie to discuss possible solutions for my problems. We talked about the possibility of having the work function return a result which is a vector of values instead of a single integer.

- Went to the Rec Center in the evening to play badminton with Stuart.

- Watched a movie ("Machinist").

- 11:30am: Attended the weekly CS Brown Bag Lunch. Dr. Killingsworth from the Department of English spoke on technical writing.

- Had a meeting with Gabi.

- Went to the Rec Center in the evening to play badminton with Stuart.

- 2pm: Had a meeting with Gabi.

- 3:30-4:00pm: Attended the weekly CS Cookie Break and finally received my second DMP Stipend check :)

- Andrew took me, Stuart and Shane to WalMart.

- Played cards at Andrew's in the evening.

- Updated this web site.

- Started working on my Abstract.

- Played a board game with CS guys.

- Watched a movie "Phantom of the Opera" in the evening.

- Watched a movie "Fear & Loathing in Los Angeles" in the afternoon.

- Continued working on my Abstract. I am planning to have the Abstract ready by Monday, so Olga or Gabi could take a look at it.
