Week 6 (07/04 - 07/10)

Monday

- Went to see the 4th of July Fireworks!!!

Tuesday

- Continued working on the improved parallel Nth Element algorithm, incorporating all the changes made to the STAPL project.

- 3:00-6:00pm: Attended the USRG GRE Prep Seminar.

- Had a meeting with Nancy, Gabi and Olga regarding my algorithms.

- Olga helped me write out the steps of the improved algorithm (the steps we described during the earlier meeting).

Wednesday

- 11:45am-1pm: Attended the USRG Luncheon.

- Olga and Gabi helped me decide which containers to use in the various steps of my algorithm.

- I went through each of the steps, coded all the parts not affected by the changes made to the project and determined all the parts that require additional
changes to STAPL.

Thursday

- 11:30am: Attended the CS Brown Bag Lunch. The topic was "Graduate Student Panel." This was a follow up to the graduate admissions panel held last week. Current students offered their insights on the application process, suggestions for making an application stand out, etc.

- 3:30pm: Attended Nancy's group meeting. Dawen talked about Incremental Map Generation.

Friday

- 3:30-4:00pm: Attended the CS Cookie Break.

- 5:30-7pm: Attended a group meeting with Nancy and Lawrence. The plan was to have a 1 hour full group meeting and to have the palgorithms writers show the algorithms to the group, identify problems and needs not yet supported (the algorithms had to be written the way we think they *should* be implemented, not as they can currently be implemented). Most of my problems were resolved at this meeting, except the need for global id.
- I am planning to finish the Nth Element algorithm as soon as the global id functionality becomes available (hopefully, in the beginning of next week).

- Went to get food with my graduate student mentors.

- Went salsa dancing with the CS crowd.

Saturday

- Watched a movie "Secretary."

- Went to the Rec Center and played badminton.

- Mike took us to a party to meet his friends.

Sunday

- Worked on my parallel algorithm.

- Updated this web site.
