week nine

august 08 - august 12

Monday, August 08:

My friends from UMBC came up this weekend and we had a fabulous time doing nothing at all. It was a sneak preview of what life in Baltimore will be like this school year...and I can't wait. They are very motivated to do well, and motivated to have fun at the same time. Very positive women!! So glad they came to visit!!

Today at work, I updated my website, finalized the AOChemotherapy presentation to give to Baystate tomorrow, and worked a little bit on this summer's final presentation. Not too much excitement...just plain work. And I made my Chemo presentation in LittleJIL extra pretty.

Tuesday, August 09:

When I came into work today, the power was out. Great. My demo of the AOChemo process was to begin at 10, and I came in at 9:15ish, so I couldn't make any changes to the process. The power finally came back on at around 9:55, so I was stressed to get my things all together. I was finally ready to present at about 10:20, which was okay because most people weren't in until 10:15 anyway. The presentation went fine, and I got some great recommendations on places where it needs some work. We also set goals for tomorrow's final visit to Baystate, as well as a plan of action to present specialized parts of the process to the agents it pertains to. I really hope we get to finalize some portions of the process so I can leave the project at a good stopping point. We'll see!

Wednesday, August 10:

I outlined the process today and printed out some diagrams in color for each specific agent. The color printer took forever, and I was afraid it would make us late. Very unprofessional of me...I should have had those copies done yesterday before I left work. But we arrived at Baystate a little bit early after a friendly debate in the car.

The final Baystate visit went really well. We projected the process in LittleJIL form, explaining what how the various symbols represented the flow of the process, as well as the flow of artifacts and the actions of agents. The Baystate team also had a hard copy (in color) of every diagram we went over so that they could make notes on their own copy. Rachel did a fantastic job of taking notes on her laptop, and Dave kept a running list of issues to tackle later. Raunak asked a lot of great questions to elicit more properties and process details from the Medical Professionals. I stood at the screen and helped the Baystate team walk through the process. A great team effort, indeed.

I got the chance to meet with Lori for a couple minutes today to talk about the final presentation and paper before I left for Kentucky. I wanted to work on them on the plane and during dull moments of the conference, so it was important to be pointed in the right direction as to what Lori wanted to see in the presentation. I now have a great plan of where to go and how to start.

And today was Maria's last day at UMass. Lucky!! I've had a lot of fun with her this summer, and I wish her the best this fall at Mount Holyoke and with all her endeavors in Computer Science.
