Getting to Seattle

Before I came to Seattle, I had to find housing for Tejinder (the other DMP student working here at UW) and I to live in for 2 months. Tejinder is from Malaysia, and she was home visiting family, and since I was much closer and had good internet access, I did most of the house searching.

The professor we're working for here at UW, Dr. Shapiro, asked Lorraine Evans, a program coordinator, to help us find housing. Lorraine was very helpful and told us a lot about Seattle and housing near the campus. See the Life as a Seattleite page for more info about where to start looking for Seattle housing.

First days

Seattle fireworks over Lake Union. July 4, 2005

I arrived in Seattle on Friday, July 01, 2005. My friend, Alexa, and I drove my car up from Corvallis (about a 250 mile trip). Alexa stayed with me for the night and then took my car to some research forests (she's a Forestry major); I'll have my car back at the end of July, till then I'm using Seattle's public transport system, which is actually pretty good (see Life as a Seattleite page for more transport info).

I have a friend from Corvallis called Dana who moved up to Seattle about a month before I did, so I met up with her over the weekend and she showed me around.

Tejinder arrived on Monday (July 4th) morning. We met up with Dana and some of her friends in the evening and went to watch the Independence Day fireworks over Lake Union (pictures turned out pretty well).
